aboutSelina Oakes (she/her) is an artist curator, researcher and writer currently based in Helsinki, Finland. Selina has experience in arts journalism, publishing, education, public programming and exhibition-making. In her artistic and curatorial practice, she focuses on the potential of bodily attunements and hydrofeminist discourses in opening up socio-ecological relations and resiliences.
Selina is assistant curator and editor for Contemporary Art Archipelago, where she has been conversing with artists and scientists to produce a series of interviews, as well as documenting and supporting events in Seili and Turku, Finland. She also works as a Coordinator and Producer for Hippolyte Gallery and the Association of Photographic Artists in Helsinki and facilitates independent artistic projects across Southern Finland. In the past, she has worked for Aesthetica, AirSpace, Ludwig Múzeum, Partners in Creative Learning and Scottish Sculpture Workshop. She has also received funding from Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Arts Council England and Nordic Analogue Network. Selina holds a MA in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art from Aalto University, Finland, and a BA in Fine Art from Newcastle University, UK. Recently, she joined the Finnish Darkroom Association. |
